Shuffle is an iOS app that makes it super simple to find new podcasts that you want to invest your time to listen to in an intuitive way – by listening to an actual clip of the podcast. Not a written review or a twitter blurb about it, but an actual clip from the podcast. It’s a common sense approach to podcast discovery that is underutilized.
Hey don’t tell me about, just let me listen to it myself
Think about movies—yes, movie reviews and recommendations help, but when you check out the trailer, you pretty much know whether or not you want to see the movie or not. That’s the same concept driving Shuffle.
TikTok style feed for posting and sharing
Shuffle has a feed that reminds you of the TikTok feed – swipe up for a one minute or less clip of a podcast posted by another user. You can also follow friends and easily create your own podcast clips to post and share. It takes less than a minute to learn how to create a clip on the app.
Initial traction, check
Based upon conversation with the CEO Ada Yeo, we learned that there have already been around 2000 clips created on the app by over 600 beta users so far. Ada Yeo also said that she raised some seed funding with investors including Naval Ravikant and Kevin Weil (ex-Instagram). The seed funding amounts and other details have not yet been released by the company.
Some metrics and the goal
According to the CEO, podcast listening has experienced 31% growth from 2019 to 2020. Obviously, people are listening to podcasts more and more, but podcast discovery has remained elusive. It will be interesting to watch and see whether Ada and the team at Shuffle can dominate podcast discovery with their slick short form audio clip format.
