Making Veggie Burgers That Taste Like Veggies

Everybody knows about plant-based burgers by now, but why do these burgers have to taste like meat?  Well, there is a company that is tackling that question and finding out that there are consumers out there that want plant-based burgers to taste like what they are.

Actual Veggies is a NYC-based maker of veggie burgers that was founded by Hailey Swartz in March 2020 and offers four varieties of quarter-pound, chef-crafted veggie burger patties that are sold in the grocery store aisle.

The flavors.  The patties are made with fresh vegetables, grains and spices with no fillers or preservatives and come in four flavors:  The Actual Black Burger, The Actual Orange Burger, The Actual Green Burger, and The Actual Purple Burger.

$2.3M seed financing.  In this company’s case, the term seed financing really fits.  They raised the funds from investors including Post Malone’s venture investing arm, Electric Feel Ventures, Big Idea Ventures, a food and bev accelerator and soccer player Kieran Gibbs.

Hailey Swartz said in a press release that “the growth we have seen over the past few months far exceeded our expectations as we expanded nationally with partners including Sprouts Farmers Market, HungryRoot, Imperfect Foods, Sunbasket, QVC and FreshDirect.”
