Tripp is a Los-Angeles based meditation and mindfulness app that is taking the unique approach of trying to disrupt the acid trip, seriously. They use VR tech and solid science to simulate what CEO Nanea Reeves calls a “low-friction alternative” to taking psychedelics per a Techcrunch article.
Reeves further explained that “the idea is to take mindfulness structures and video game mechanics together to see if we can actually hack the way that you feel.”
Tech. The app uses a VR headset with immersive mindfulness exercises, targeted sound frequencies, visuals and interactions – think glowing trees, wild shapes and starts, planets whizzing by and all kinds of similar imagery.
Subscription. Tripp is charging $14.99 per year for a subscription which is substantially less than what market leaders Calm and Headspace run for an annual sub. At that price, some users may even be tempted to try out a Tripp subscription as an add-on to their other mindfulness apps.
$11M. Investors are taking notice as the company just completed an $11 million financing led by Vine Ventures and Mayfield with a total of $15 million in funding to date.
2 million sessions. Sitting at the intersection of VR and mindfulness may be a good place to be as VR startups have struggled in the shadow of Facebook and Sony’s efforts in the space.
And it seems like users have taken notice too – the company said that there have been over 2 million sessions inside the app.
That’s a lot of trips.
