One of the more interesting reveals from the Google I/O event held virtually this year was Project Starline, which is like a phone booth which creates a 3D likeness of the person you are talking to, using cameras and sensors in the booth.
Google explained in a blog post that “to make this experience possible, we are applying research in computer vision, machine learning, spatial audio and real-time compression. We've also developed a breakthrough light field display system that creates a sense of volume and depth that can be experienced without the need for additional glasses or headsets.”
The easiest way to describe this in our own words is having a zoom call with a 3D replica of a person so that it feels like he or she is right there in the room with you. Go figure.
