VENTURE CAPITAL

The Scoop on How Much Dough the Big VCs Have

There’s traditionally been a veil of secrecy surrounding how much money venture capital firms have.  That's now changing because many big VCs have been registering as RIAs so they can buy crypto tokens and other assets.

Financial disclosures of AUM are required with the RIA designation, so here is a highlight reel on their publicly disclosed AUMS in 2021:

FIRM                AUM Dec 2021            AUM Dec 2020

Paradigm        $13.2B                         $2.98B

a16z                $54.6B                         $35.8B

Sequoia           $85.5B                         (Started filing in 2021)

Tiger Global    $124.7B                       $79.1B

Of course, these numbers aren’t a perfect commentary on what’s happening at these VCs – the AUM values reflect valuations given to private, illiquid stakes, can be driven up or down by new funds raised or monies distributed out to limited partners, etc.

But it sure is interesting to gawk at the sheer size and scale of these monsters.
