For a guy scared about the potential threat of killer AI robots, Musk sure is at the forefront of creating this tech. Anybody remember SkyNet built by Cyberdyne Systems in The Terminator? Neuralink was founded in 2016 to build “ultra high bandwidth brain-machine interfaces to connect humans and computers.” Ok, so basically he wants to build an AI-powered chip for our brains. Ok…ok. Oh yeah, this is Elon Musk.
All about recruitment
Neuralink has a very cool launch video on the site. Elon Musk says that the primary purpose of the video is recruitment, that is, to get the most talented people to join his endeavor. He also says that the chip is going to take a very long time. So, despite the hype, don’t hold your breath.
Give me a chip, please
What do we know about this chip? The applications of the technology are pretty much endless, but Elon Musk did emphasize on Lex Friedman’s Artificial Intelligence Podcast that initially, the purpose of the chip will be to help treat brain-related disorders like autism, schizophrenia and Alzheimer’s disease.
We’re still trying to catch our collective breath after the GPT-3 excitement a few weeks ago. Not sure how Elon Musk can keep up with himself.
